“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.””

Barton Shulman, LPCC

In my practice, I work with individuals, couples and non-monogamous/poly relationships, and groups of all kinds. My clients include individuals seeking personal insight, relief from anxiety or depression, and a variety of mental health concerns. I also work with couples and other relationships in whatever form they take. As an intern, I've helped clients at Haight Ashbury Psychological Services (HAPS) and UCSF Alliance Health Project (AHP), and I'm glad to have the opportunity to bring my work into a private practice setting. I have many years of experience with the LGBT community, and I continue my work as part of the AHP Gender Team to provide services for trans, genderqueer, non-binary, and gender non-conforming clients as well as others.

I have extensive group experience, having facilitated support groups at AHP and other agencies for 20 years. Recently, I presented at two conferences related to the "Creative Arts for Active Substance Users" group I co-facilitate. I also co-led AHP's "Sex & Sobriety" group for several cycles. I've also been a guest lecturer at California School of Professional Psychology in a graduate-level Group Therapy class, and also taught the experiential lab for that class.

My training has been integrative with a strong client-centered influence. I have experience with CBT, DBT, and ACT methods. I also work with substance use issues from a harm-reduction perspective.

My undergraduate education began at UCLA and ended (after some studies in Burma) with a Bachelors in Humanities and Psychology from New College of California. I received my Masters in Clinical Counseling from the California School of Professional Psychology. I currently see clients as a California Professional Clinical Counselor Registered Intern, and recently (April 2017) completed my clinical internship hours.  I anticipate sitting for my licensing exam in the coming months.
